Every Ounce

It was dark when
I headed out
Unusually dark

A new season
approaches, and
I was not prepared
for morning’s darkness

Eyes heavy
Thoughts fuzzy
Feeling uneasy

Suddenly, a pink arch
emerged from the horizon
shattering the darkness
in a precious split-second

At first, I thought it
was a rainbow, but
there was only pink

There was only pink.
But it was the
prettiest pink
I have ever seen

Like a magnet
it pulled every ounce
of uneasiness from my chest

And I continued forward.
Grateful to have witnessed
such a transformation
Light eclipsing darkness
