Delicate petals
Painted purple
And white
Pale yellow
Center
Completing
The bloom
Caught my eye
In a moment
Of exhaustion
A welcomed pause
To catch my breath
What is your name?
Need to keep moving
A quick photograph
To research later…
Images of you
Graced the walls
Of a coffee shop
Artfully framed
Thoughtfully
Displayed
Carefully labeled
With the answer
I was seeking
Kneeling down
I read the card
Unexpected
Sadness
At the realization
Your name is
Forever tied
To a senseless
Act of violence-
Columbine-
Delicate petals
Painted purple
And white
Pale yellow
Center
Completing
The bloom-

A beautiful poem with a poignant connection. The natural beauty tied to a senseless act. How can we untie the memory of the senseless losses to a remembrance of the souls lost and who shine brightly purple, yellow and white, each symbolic of beauty, divinity and light. Ah…that’s it. We can remember the shining souls when we see those beautiful flowers.
Beautiful and deeply thought provoking, Kelley. I’m surprised and delighted by where your verse led me in my comment. Thank you. ❤️
I’ve enjoyed having these in my flower gardens and can now appreciate them even more.
