Bits of Rock

Suddenly, it was dark

Only moments before, I
watched the sky transform
from grayish-blue
to pinkish-orange

But now, from this vantage,
The sky is pitch-black

Strange, how artificial light,
created to erase darkness, actually
blocks billions of brilliant lights

Lights that serve as a guide
through the darkness

Could it be that progress
keeps us from the wonder
of lying on our backs,
the hardness of the ground
underneath us, unnoticed

Watching the bright lights
from dying bits of rock fly
across the night sky

  1. Kelley, this is beautiful. I can relate to every word! You have such an amazing gift of words and wisdom.
One reason I love traveling west to Montana and many of my favorite places is to experience the big open sky~ no artificial light.
Sending love and prayers dear friend. 💚🙏

    1. Thank you, Karla. 🩷 Yes-that’s one thing I love about visiting Colorado. Sitting outside at night, watching the stars. And where I grew up, in Arkansas, there was little artificial light. The night sky was magical.
Love and prayers to you. 🙏💫

      1. You’re welcome ☺️ yes, AR is an amazing place too! Growing up in my small-town Missouri offered that~ but the sky seems bigger in other places? Lol! Thank you for your love and prayers~ I feel them 💚🙏
