Hold My Hand

Days when the sun and clouds
clasp hands in such a way
It is nearly impossible to
distinguish billows from blues

Sunlight, bright and warm,
shines on, around, and
through layers of clouds,
stirring imagination-

Today was such a day

After grabbing my attention,
and coaxing a smile, my
thoughts shifted to the
reason for their beauty

The simple sharing of space-
Each taking their turn to
enlighten, offer shade,
or shine a spotlight

Days when we clasp hands
In such a way, it is nearly
Impossible to distinguish
Your heart from mine

Straight Ahead

It wasn’t supposed to rain.
But when I stepped outside,
raindrops landed on my head,
my face and my arms.
They dried almost as quickly as they fell.
Strange, no gray clouds in sight.
Looking straight ahead, while
turning a 360-degree radius,
there was a mix of
bright blue,
fluffy white,
and daylight.
Where was the gray?
Directly overhead.
I suddenly felt like a cartoon character.
You know the one.
Aimlessly lumbering across a happy scene,
accompanied by a single rain cloud.
It’s curious, today is clear and sunny.
And I miss the raindrops.

Simply Sunday

Constantly interrupted sleep,
a cycle of words and phrases
repeating and evolving
between quiet moments.
When morning came,
the words were gone.
As if they’d never crossed my mind.
Just as I’d put aside
any attempt at recovery,
a beautiful blank slate appeared.
Its location? A pleasant surprise.
A page of blue surrounded
by white clouds and sunshine
I think my day just wrote itself.

A rectangle in the sky. 💙😉

Faith

The proof is often hazy
Evidence sometimes vague
Requiring intense searching –
You know the sun is there
Its warmth permeates your skin-
Your eyes see the light- But lines
Painted across the clouds
Are so faint
That they are visible
Only through squinted eyes –
And even then a sliver of doubt
As to your squinty-eyed realization
Creeps its way into your thoughts –
Close your eyes
Feel the warmth on your face-
Open your eyes
Believing the source remains
Even when temporarily out of view

Me, You, or the Clouds

Darting back and forth
In a game of hide-n-seek
Behind veils not thick enough
To completely conceal –
Like a child playing
Peek-A-Boo
Behind their blanket
While sitting across from you
At the table-knowing
They are not hidden
Simply having fun pretending-
Such was the sun
On that early morning
Darting back and forth
As its color shifted from bright tangerine
To muted peach …bright to muted
…bright to muted
Behind layers of thin wispy clouds-
As if calling me to come play
While asking the question-
Which of us is moving?
Is it me, or you, or the clouds?

Hold Tight

A rolling dark cloud
Greeted the day
Its growth visible
Second by second
Ominous, imparting a
Sense of dread and fear
On all who approached-
I felt it, too
A tightness in my chest
A furrow on my brow
But still, the day approached
And there was no place to hide-
A gentle tap tap on the window
Shifted my thoughts-raindrops-
As if to say, it will be ok
Yes, I hold heaviness today
But don’t be afraid –
Sometimes, tears have to flow
There’s no other way through
At least, not today-
It may seem darkness is growing
But the sun holds tight behind me
Waiting as the rain
Washes away my hurt
Preparing my heart to
Receive and reflect the light-
So, I wait for the sun
Will you wait with me?

Melting

In celebration of melted ice and snow
Deer pranced and played
In the damp grass
On the hillside
Circling a now-barren tree
That provides shade on warmer days-
Their joy, almost palpable,
Spread to the cars passing by-
Following days of teeth-chattering cold
They were a welcomed sight-
As I continued driving
Sunlight soaked through my skin
Warming all the way to the bone
Melting not only the ice
And snow outside, but also
The frost that had attempted
To wrap itself around my heart

Hoping

The entire day
Looked like night
A continuous moment of gray
From the end of a sad day
Stuck in a time warp
Confusing the senses
Of all who took the time
To look out the window –
A confusion so deep
Once the light appeared
It was almost unrecognizable –
But lingering shadows were
Unable to push it away-
My squinty eyes smiled
Soaking in the light
Hoping even the memory
Of this brief appearance
Would continue to shine
Throughout the night
And into Tomorrow

Goodbye, Hello

Leafless, yet not lifeless
Able to feel
The sun’s rays
Warming the core of
Bare, gray branches-
Smiling contently while
Sharing the sun’s warmth
With young evergreens
Standing close behind-
Wisdom gained with
The passing of time
Wisdom intertwined with
Roots buried deep
Wisdom acknowledging
The continuous
Changing of seasons-
One year, waving goodbye
As a new one says hello-
Grateful for the
Warmth of the sun
Reaching the core of
Bare, gray branches-
Understanding the space
Created by fallen leaves
Allowed for the sharing

Simply Sunday

Dear Sunshine

I’d almost forgotten
The way you instantly
Lift my spirits
How, even before
Coming into view
I feel your warmth on my face-
Such a gift-
I’m sorry for sometimes
Taking you for granted
Especially in the summertime-
Thanks for visiting today
Hope to see you again tomorrow

Thankful to feel the sun on my face today! 💛
