A Unique Lens

The longer I look
The clearer I see-
Those shining
Brightest
Are always
First in view
And though
Initially
Outshining
Their neighbors
All are worth
Exploring
Even when
Taking a
Closer look
Requires a
Unique lens
One that will
Magnify light while
Decreasing distance-
Whether gazing
Up at the stars
Or into
Surrounding
Souls
The resulting
Phenomenon
Is the same-
Increasing light
Increasing love
Increasing hope

Be the Light

Experiencing
Darkness is
Universal
As is the hope
For a light
To ease
Our gloom
We are not
Intended
To live alone
On an island
No contact
With another
Living soul
Each of us
Will have
Opportunity
To be the hand
Reaching
Thru the fog
Or the one
Grateful
To be pulled
Out of the murk
Weightless
In the arms
Of our brother

A New Voice

Sweet little girl
About to cry
Every morning
Quietly, not a fit
Simply hesitant
I walk her
To the door
You are going
To have
The best day
I love you

Slight head nod
She goes inside
Afternoon, time for music
Quietly enters the room
And then I hear
Her voice
Not recognizing
At first…
Mrs. Morris, I love you
Sweet little girl

Autumn

Modest changes
In the leaves
Coolness
In the breeze
Calmness
In my heart-
Each one
A dot
On the landscape
Of this life
But interwoven
They are stories
Lessons
Heartaches
All leading
To a beautiful
Transformation
Long awaited
Colors of Fall

Hold Your Breath

Cool night air
Gently swaying
All that moves
Black night sky
Holding lights of
Varying brightness
A planet sits just
Above the horizon
Yet, millions of miles away
Encircled by its moons
I can see it
Thru the lens
Of a telescope-
Stand still
Hold your breath
It will soon be
Out of view

Worth Telling

Magic
In a tiny
Cardboard disc
Cutout windows
Evenly spaced
Around its edges
Each one holding
Transparent film
Unclear images
Until said disc
Is carefully placed
In the slot on top
Of the viewfinder-
Eyes glued
To the lenses
Held up to the light
And a whole new
Word emerges
Click the side button
To continue the journey
Image after image
Sharing a story
Worth telling-
We all have a story
Worth telling
Our very own
Cardboard disc
Filled with
Windows
To the soul

Sharing another poetry circle poem. Thankful for opportunities and connections. ❤️

Inside-Out

Clouds of
Bluish gray
Against the
Almost white
Morning sky
Felt as if
The World
Had been turned
Inside-out
Overnight-
Complete opposite
Of what my eyes
Witnessed yesterday
Bright blue sky
Crisp white clouds
Strange…
For a moment
I wondered if
Something was wrong
Was yesterday simply a cover?
Sadness hiding behind a smile?

Maybe, maybe not
Another glance revealed
Today’s answer-
The morning star
Twinkling
Among the clouds
As if to say
Good morning
It’s a new day
All is well

And I smiled
Not hiding
But trusting

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.

Yet to Know

For all the hurrying
To complete
The next task
Reach the next
Milestone
I am finding peace
In the unfinished
Relief in knowing
There is more
To become
Simple changes
In the day to day
Or transformation
Across the years
A me anyone has yet to know…
Hopefully, one who is
A bit wiser, one
Who remembers
To slow down
So as not to miss
Even the singular
Steps of growth
Requiring
The most faith
Revealing
The simplest joys

About Wrinkles

I am choosing
To view wrinkles
In a new light
Especially after
Noticing them
On my eyelids
How does that even happen?
The eyeliner applied resembling
A jagged Jack-O-Lantern smile
Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating
But it did introduce
A new line of questioning
What caused the lines framing my mouth?
Smiling countless smiles
Lines drawn from the corners of my eyes?
Squinting from the brightness of a warm sun
Lines gracing my forehead?
A bit of worry over the ones I love-
All these answers are signs
Traces of living
A life not ready
To be erased
Or to be forgotten

Lessons Learned While Hiking

Begin with
Determination
Remembering
As the slope
Increases
Baby steps
Are best
Requiring
Less energy
Rest stops
Are necessary
But never
Long enough
At some point
The destination
Will feel farther
Away than when
You started
But once the end
Is in sight
Relief floods
Body, mind, soul
Celebrating while
Begging for rest
Time to just be
In the place you
Struggled to reach
Grateful, tho once again
Never long enough…

Yesterday, my husband and I cheered on our daughter as she ran her first 5K! Yesterday, our youngest son was in Texas, helping our oldest son and his wife move to a new apartment! Today, I remember how we were all together just two months ago, hiking to Browns Falls in Colorado. Today, I am grateful. ❤️
