Contentment

Let’s take a walk
Just you and me
Hand in hand, no concern
For our destination –
Wandering easily toward
The blues, grays, and purples
Rolling in the distance
As barren silver-covered branches
Quietly whisper our names-
Perhaps if we walk long enough
We can sit underneath the tree
And rest awhile against its trunk
Listening to the surrounding sounds of life
Until sleeping the most peaceful sleep
Unsure if our walk was reality or dream-
Content with either answer

Such is the Bond

There we were
Standing on
Grandma’s front porch
Me and Mom
All her sisters
Even Grandma
Was there talking
And smiling
Strange how young
She looked
I should have been
A child-And yet,
There I stood
Seeing them all
Thru grown-up eyes
A gift all its own
As one sister drove away
We all waved thru smiles
And tears, uncertain
When she would return
Such is the bond of
Mothers, daughters, sisters
Pouring love and strength
Thru laughter and tears
Over each new generation
Of mothers, daughters, sisters
I awoke in a sea of emotions
Thankful for the strong women in my past
Thankful for vivid dreams invaded by
memories

Porch Swing Promises

If you had a porch swing
I might never leave-

Innocent comments carrying
A hint of hope for the future-
Offered with a smile
Received with curiosity
At a time when everything was new
Excitement mixed with hesitation
In the getting-to-know stage
Holding tight
To possibilities
But not too tight-
Until uncertainties vanished
With one thoughtful purchase-
Perfect spot for relaxing, talking, laughing-
And when the time was right
A sweet proposal-
Who knew so much hope and love
Could be held in the sway
Of one perfectly placed porch swing

On Your Mark

The more I sleep
The more I dream
Sleep is good
So are dreams
But if my eyes
Remain closed
For too long
And dreams end
With waking
Never to be
Considered again
What purpose did they serve?
They are not fulfilled
By wishing, but by
Opening my eyes
To the world outside
Remembering
Both the sweet
And the restless
Allowing them to
Move my feet
One step
Then another
Embracing action
Accepting rest
Avoiding idleness
Held in a cycle
Of discovery
And learning
Failures and
Successes
Seeing dreams
As the starting mark
While welcoming
The holding of hands
That will, together
Cross the finish line

School started last week. Needless to say, it was a busy week! And I am tired. I was glad to see students again. 😊

I missed reading words and thoughts from my WordPress family last week. Most evenings, my brain had no room left. That, and I could barely keep my eyes open through dinner. 😉 Hoping to play catch up this weekend. Happy Saturday!

Simply Sunday

Two Poem Tuesday

Almost Asleep

There’s
A span
Of time
Between
Awake and
Asleep
Where hazy
Melodies
Slow to
A gentle
Tempo
I wonder
How many
Measures
This space
Is capable
Of holding?

Trying to
Keep count
I am sadly
Awakened
Sleep evading
Allowing
The lullaby
To wash over
I am sweetly
Carried
To slumber
Melody
Forgotten
A mystery
Left for
Dreaming

Daylight Savings?

Time change?
How is that
Possible?
An enigma
At best
Lose an hour
Gain an hour
Tomorrow
Arrives the same
Sleep comes
No faster
Rest feels
No sweeter
At least not
From this
Sleepyhead
…until
My morning
Drive to work
Was no longer
Shrouded
In darkness
Instead,
A pretty
Pink sunrise

The word of the day, or the week, is sleep. It feels like I cannot get enough. It’s funny how gaining an extra hour makes me feel so tired. 😉
